The American Lumber Defender™ Campaign

Join us to build all lumber built structures better with mold and fire defense now that both are safer and more affordable than ever before since the wood housing boom started after WW2.

Stronger buildings. Healthier homes. Safer communities.

01 · Snap Plate Mold Defender™ · ASTM G21 tested

Defend your foundation.

Snap Plate Mold Defender™ is a commercial strength, spray on formula applied to wood surfaces to create a moisture and fungi defense. Blue for stick framing: apply under, around and on all wall plates and sub floors before the building is closed in.

Trapped moisture under a bottom plate will not dry out the way it does on vertical lumber. Treating the plate line during layout is the simplest way to defend a wet plate or subfloor before the walls stand and the drywall goes on.

Framed room with every bottom plate and the first twelve inches of stud treated blue with Snap Plate Mold Defender
Prevents trapped moisture
Defends wood bottom plates and subfloors under walls.
Resists fungal growth
Proven to defend a wide variety of fungal organisms.
Non-toxic, very low VOC
A free flowing dispersion that is safe indoors and during application.
ASTM G21 tested
Passed laboratory testing to prove resistance to fungal and mold growth.

Application instructions

Best results start with lumber and subfloors that are not wet.

1Layout crew rolling Snap Plate Mold Defender along the snapped wall lines
Layout crew sprays snap lines
Spray a 12" coating over the snapped wall lines before walls go vertical.
2Stack of prefabricated wall panels with treated bottom plates
Prefab walls
Spray bottom plates on factory pre fab walls before leaving the factory. Also spray the snapped layout before walls go vertical.
3Close-up of a standing wall with its bottom plate and studs treated blue
Vertical walls
Spray the bottom of vertical walls up six inches and 12" on the floor sheathing for additional defense.

Easy and cost effective to apply

With our battery powered 4 gallon backpack sprayer. One pail and one sprayer treat the plate line on a house in about an hour, with the crew you already have.

02 · Mass Timber Connection Defender™ · ASTM G21 tested

Protect the connections.

Mass Timber Connection Defender™ is the same advanced formula as Snap Plate Mold Defender™ with no blue dye: an eco advanced, non-toxic, very low VOC water repellent with a durable fungi strength additive, factory applied and sprayed inside mass timber connections where trapped moisture does its damage.

Even mass timber gains important risk reduction during construction, before drywall and sprinklers are added, when treated to achieve stronger fire performance. All wood structures, including mass timber, are vulnerable to mold and rot during wet weather construction.

  • Same advanced formula as Snap Plate Mold Defender™
  • Factory apply and spray inside connections
  • Defends against damage caused by trapped moisture
  • No blue dye
  • Commercial strength
  • Non-toxic, very low VOC
  • ASTM G21 tested

03 · Pro Subfloor Defender™

Defend the deck before the walls go up.

Rain and snow land on the floor sheathing for the whole time the frame is open. Once the walls are standing and the drywall is on, the deck under the plates is the one surface on the job nobody can reach again.

Pro Subfloor Defender™ is applied to the subfloor during layout so a wet deck sheds water instead of holding it, and does not become a mold callback after the building is occupied.

  • Apply to floor sheathing at layout, before the walls stand
  • Water repellent protection for OSB and plywood decks
  • Helps prevent mold growth under wall plates
  • Commercial strength, applied with the same sprayer as Snap Plate Mold Defender™

04 · American Lumber Defender™ · Class A Floor Trusses

Class A floor trusses for safer wood structures.

Supporting today’s best mold and fire builder risk reduction.

There is more to reducing fire and wildfire risk than just changing vents and roofing. Hot micro wildfire dust can penetrate new roof vents. Adding Class A trusses or roof framing members, combined with better roofing and ember vents, creates true risk reduction.

The best risk reduction for insurance underwriters starts with the structural wood system. True risk reduction starts in the lumber bones of the home.

FireProShop Class A fire treated trusses with connector plates in place

Why Class A trusses matter

Protects firefighters
I-joists are known to fail quickly in fire conditions, increasing rescue risk.
Supports fire resistance
Raw wood roof systems can accelerate total fire involvement in dry attic spaces, while Class A truss systems support stronger fire performance.
Build above the code
A national TER-report supported approach for builders who want true risk reduction.
In honor of the thousands of families across America who have suffered devastating fire loss, we believe in building above the code.
Firefighter safety
Safer buildings. Safer communities.
Built above code
True risk reduction.
Engineered strength
Stronger wood structures.
Mold & rot risk reduction
Healthier homes. Longer lasting.
Better underwriter confidence
Lower risk. Stronger value.

FAQ

Straight answers.

The questions builders, framers and risk managers ask first.

What is Class A fire treated lumber?
Framing lumber with a Class A surface-burning rating: a flame spread index of 25 or less and smoke developed of 450 or less under ASTM E84. FireProShop Class A lumber is Douglas Fir coated at the mill with MFB-34 EPA Safer Choice Fire Retardant, evaluated under DrJ TER 2504-101 as an alternative to FRTW, and it arrives stamped on every piece.
What is the difference between fire treated lumber and job-site fire defense?
Fire treated lumber is coated at the mill and arrives stamped. Job-site fire defense is the second layer: the framer sprays the exposed interior lumber with MFB-31 as the walls go vertical, covering field cuts, blocking and anything that was not treated at the mill. Both run on the same chemistry.
What is a construction mold defender?
A treatment applied during framing to the surfaces that trap moisture after the walls go up and cannot be reached again. Snap Plate Mold Defender is rolled on the snapped layout lines and the bottom of every plate before the walls are stood. It is tested to ASTM G21 and takes about an hour on a house.
Does any of this add a trade or change the schedule?
No. The lumber arrives stamped and is cut and nailed like any other stick. The plate line is rolled at layout and the interior is sprayed as the walls go vertical, both by the framing crew you already have. FireProShop trains them and sets up the equipment.
Where does FireProShop ship?
Across the Western United States, from Northern California to Los Angeles to Reno, out of NorCal Lumber north of Sacramento. FireProShop is based in Incline Village, Nevada.
Will fire treated framing lower my insurance premium?
We do not underwrite anything, and anyone who promises you a premium number is guessing. What exists is the documentation: the evaluation report, the test standards behind each layer and the application record for the address. We show it to you, and you hand it to your risk manager.
Does fire treatment eliminate wildfire risk?
No treatment eliminates wildfire risk. It reduces flame spread on the treated surfaces and buys time. If an evacuation order is issued, leave.
