About · History

Ten years of chemistry behind the lumber.

The fire protection on our Class A lumber and in the MFB-31 pail is CitroTech® chemistry, developed by our founder Steve Conboy. This is the record of how it went from a framer's idea to a tested, certified, code-evaluated product.

“At CitroTech, we believe protection starts before ignition. Our mission is to deliver safer chemistry that empowers people, industries, and communities to act early — creating a future where fire is stopped before it starts.”

Our historical timeline

  1. 2015 – 2017

    Creation & early development

Steve Conboy identified the need for a new, non-toxic binding chemistry that keeps fire retardant adhered to wood and vegetation, and began developing what became the CitroTech® formula. After extensive testing, the core chemistry was established and the first patents were filed. The patent family has expanded ever since. Today roughly 47 patents exist, with more pending.

  2. 2019 – 2022

    Engagement, certification & recognized innovation

Under Steve Conboy's leadership and technical direction, CitroTech® entered dialogue with the U.S. EPA and pursued eco-safe fire retardant standards. That work culminated in CitroTech® earning EPA Safer Choice certification. In these years non-toxic, proactive wildfire defense moved from concept to recognized product.

  3. 2022

    UL GREENGUARD Gold certification

CitroTech® achieved UL GREENGUARD Gold certification, which validates exceptionally low chemical emissions. That is a major differentiator for lumber and construction materials, indoor environments and wildfire defense applications.

  4. 2023 – 2024

EPA Safer Choice Partner of the Year

CitroTech was named EPA Safer Choice Partner of the Year for the first time, then received the award again the following year, the second in a row.

  5. 2025

    More certifications

Three reports that put the chemistry on the plan checker's desk.

    • DrJ Engineering TER 2504-101 — IBC / IRC compliant

Third-party engineering report confirming CitroTech-treated materials meet IBC and IRC building code requirements for use in residential and commercial structures.

    • ASTM E84 — Class A rating

CitroTech-treated materials achieve Class A performance for low flame spread and smoke development.

    • ASTM E2768 — Extended-duration Class A

Passes the 30-minute enhanced surface-burning test, maintaining Class A performance during extended fire exposure. Suited to WUI and wildfire defense applications.

  6. 2025

    Uplisted to NYSE American: CITR

In early December 2025, CitroTech was officially uplisted to the NYSE American under the ticker CITR.

Where FireProShop comes in

The same chemistry, on the wood before the house exists.

MFB-34 goes on No. 2 Douglas Fir at the mill, and the Class A lumber arrives stamped under TER 2504-101. MFB-31 ships in 5-gallon pails for your framer to spray as the walls go vertical.
