Fire Pro Shop Fence Defender

Cedar fence lines fire treated on day one, sealed against water and UV on day two, with a horizontal ember base where embers collect.

Wood fences make excellent wildfire boundary defenses when they are fire treated and a horizontal ember base is applied at the bottom, where embers land and pile. Day one is the fire chemistry, sprayed on the fence. Day two is the clear or colored penetrating finish that keeps water and UV off it. The same treated boards close in under open decks to block ember attacks, and the defense holds even when the risk comes from a neighbor who does nothing. The fence pictured was fire treated and stained more than eight years ago.

FAQ

Questions about Fire Pro Shop Fence Defender.

Can a wood fence protect a property from wildfire?
A fire treated fence with a horizontal ember base at the bottom works as a boundary defense, because that is where embers land and pile. An untreated fence does the opposite and carries fire toward the structure.
What is an ember base?
A horizontal treated base along the bottom of the fence line where wind-driven embers collect. Treating it is what stops a pile of embers from becoming an ignition point.
What happens on each of the two days?
Day one is the fire chemistry, sprayed on the fence. Day two is a clear or colored penetrating finish that keeps water and UV off the wood so the treatment stays where it was put.
Does Fence Defender change the look of the cedar?
The day-two finish is penetrating, and it comes clear or colored, so the fence can keep its natural cedar look or take a tone.
Does it work on decks?
The same two-step treatment is used on under-decks, where embers collect the same way they do at the base of a fence.
